HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A three-time world champion surfer said Hawaiian Airlines denied his surfboards Tuesday morning.

Joel Tudor said the airline would not accept his boards as checked baggage on a flight from San Diego to Honolulu.

Tudor explained, “The surfboards that I took yesterday were to the limit requirement. They’re nine feet six (inches) is what you’re allowed to take. But the problem with taking boards of that size is there has to be like, playing room to be able to pack your bag of basically about two inches on each side. My bag was five inches oversized, and they denied it.”

Tudor says he’s been flying with Hawaiian since the 1990s and hasn’t had this problem before.
