LIHUE (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Kauai man who was found guilty of second-degree murder will remain behind bars for the rest of his life following a Hawaii Supreme Court decision.
Peter Grewer was convicted of killing his 67-year-old landlord who was in a wheelchair. On June 2018, Joellen Hartman was found dead with 17 stab wounds. Prosecutors said Grewer had been evicted as a tenant on her property earlier that day.
Due to the heinous and cruel nature of the crime as well as the victim’s age, the state sought and received an extended, enhanced sentencing of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
