HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - No charges will be filed against a 27-year-old man accused of stabbing a Kalihi woman to death .

The Honolulu prosecuting attorney’s office said Wednesday its decision not to file a second-degree murder charge “follows a thorough investigation into the circumstances of this death and is aligned with the State of Hawaii’s laws of self-defense.”

The stabbing occurred Monday, Sept. 15, at around 8:20 p.m. on Olomea Street when an argument between two housemates escalated.

The woman, identified by neighbors and the prosecutor’s office as Maria Bolter, 57, was hospitalized in critical condition and later died.
