The goal always to be undefeated, but sometimes a loss isn’t such a bad thing.
That’s true for coaches and also true in the predictions game.
My only loss in picking winners in Monroe County Region football last week came when I failed to follow my gut and predicted Gibraltar Carlson to lose.
Instead of jumping on the bandwagon and giving me an undefeated week, the Marauders whipped Pontiac Notre Dame 42-21.
When I talked to Carlson coach Jason Gendron after the game, he was sympathetic.
“Nah, you can’t do that,” he said of picking against a defending state champion at home.
It takes the sting out of a loss when it means a big win for a school with some of the nicest people and nicest coaches I am privileged to work with.
Besides that, I’m not greedy. An 11-1 record was plenty good.
