WILLIAMSPORT — A plaintiff awarded damages in a federal civil case is getting a new trial because, in an unusual move, he agrees that a request for one made by the defense is warranted.
U.S. Middle District Magistrate Judge William I. Arbuckle, who is now retired, in May awarded state inmate Barry George Woods $15,000 in punitive damages and $309 in compensatory damages.
The judge, following a February non-jury trial, ruled Woods, a convicted child sex offender, was entitled to damages for being assaulted and denied meals by corrections officers at the Camp Hill state prison.
