Democrat Abigail Spanberger raised $14 million between July 1 and Aug. 31, nearly three times as much as Republican Winsome Earle-Sears, as the campaign for governor in Virginia reaches the homestretch.

Earle-Sears, the sitting lieutenant governor, raised $5.2 million in the period, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.

Spanberger, a former 7th District congresswoman, had $12 million in cash as of Aug. 31, compared to $4.9 million for Earle-Sears, according to the latest campaign finance figures.
