The Charleston Police Department, in conjunction with the Governor's Highway Safety Program, plan a high visibility DUI sobriety/child safety seat checkpoint on Friday on the West Side.

This checkpoint will be conducted in the 400 block of Virginia Street, West — between Maryland and Delaware avenues — from about 5-11 p.m.

The purpose of this checkpoint is to reduce criminal and traffic related activities in the surrounding areas.
