WHITEHOUSE, Texas — East Texas law enforcement is reminding students to stay vigilant online after a 16-year-old girl was taken into custody on Tuesday for threatening to shoot up Whitehouse High School.

She has been charged with making terroristic threats, a third-degree felony.

The girl said in a Snapchat post that was "thinking about shooting that place up." She was not at school on Tuesday and was arrested after an acquaintance tipped off authorities. Smith County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Larry Christian is praising this person for being quick to act.

Christian emphasized the importance of bringing dangerous messages found on social media to SCSO's attention.

"Any time that something like this comes across, they need to notify their parents or the authorities immediately," he said.
