HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A Hastings man whose son was found dead in his car this summer is headed to trial court.

Jeremy Hansen, 36, is charged with negligent child abuse resulting in death. Court records show he waived a probable cause hearing Sept. 3 and his case was transferred to Adams County District Court for possible trial.

Police arrested Hansen July 28 after his son was found dead in a car in a parking lot in southeast Hastings. A preliminary investigation showed the 5-month-old died of extreme heat exposure.

An arraignment hearing is scheduled in district court Oct. 1. At arraignment, a suspect typically pleads guilty or not guilty to the charge faced.
