FORT WAYNE – An ongoing investigation is underway following a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on Friday, September 12, 2025, in northeast Allen County. The individual who was shot has been identified as 81-year-old William Joseph Peters.

The incident began shortly after 8:00 p.m. when an Allen County Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol noticed a suspicious vehicle at the dead end of Irving Road. As the deputy approached, they observed an armed person inside the vehicle with an unknown injury. Due to the unusual circumstances and the presence of a weapon, the deputy called for backup.
