OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is considering mitigation efforts to stop the invasive round goby from settling into the Winnebago System.

The DNR is increasing monitoring and is considering several options, including using a fish-killing chemical in a specific, contained area.

It also considers the Menasha Lock and Menasha and Neenah dams as essential barriers to the round goby spreading to Lake Winnebago and waters beyond.

The DNR says the round goby is nearly impossible to eradicate once it’s been introduced to a water system.

It’s asking anglers that catch a fish they think is a round goby to kill it immediately and bring it to a DNR service center . There’s one in Oshkosh.
