COLUMBIA, S.C. - A South Carolina corrections officer is accused of trying to smuggle alcohol into a state prison.
The South Carolina Department of Corrections said 29-year-old Miesha Janai Carter, of Bishopville, was arrested and charged with misconduct in office as well as criminal conspiracy.
Warrants released by the agency allege Carter, a corrections officer at Wateree Correctional Institution, “knowingly participated in a plan to introduce contraband into Wateree Correctional.”
Documents state Carter was to bring in a water bottle with alcohol inside. The bottle was reportedly found inside her vehicle, which was on Wateree Correctional property at the time.
