BLUFFTON — Councilmember Bridgette Frazier sued her own town this month , alleging that police erred by arresting her for driving under suspension over a year ago.

At the moment she filed her lawsuit, Frazier’s driving record shows that her license was suspended.

Frazier’s license was suspended from Aug. 15 to Sept. 11 because the S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles could not verify her insurance. South Carolina law requires drivers to maintain liability insurance on all vehicles registered in the state.

The DMV could not verify her insurance as of June 17, according to a letter the agency sent to Frazier. The Post and Courier obtained a copy through an open-records request. Failing to respond would result in her license and registration’s suspension, the letter said. Frazier’s suspensi
