CHARLESTON, W.Va – Charges have been dismissed against a Kanawha County substitute teacher accused of abusing a non-verbal child.
Kanawha County prosecuting attorney Debra Rusnak filed a motion to dismiss charges against Willie Washington, who was accused of grabbing the child “under the chin roughly” and throwing him to the ground after he fled.
Washington had been charged with battery and assault of a disabled child, but Rusnak’s motion indicated that after watching surveillance footage, “the evidence reviewed does not support the felony charge as presented.”
Attorney Michael Cary announced a civil lawsuit last week on behalf of the child’s family against Washington and Kanawha County Schools.
