MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile City Council has approved the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

On Aug. 20, the City of Mobile released a budget proposal that included more allocations for public safety programs and initiatives, stormwater management, and local infrastructure improvements.

During their regular meeting on Tuesday, the council voted to approve a $416 million budget, which means additional funding for public safety programs and initiatives, local infrastructure projects and other public services.

The budget also includes the city's largest investments in stormwater management, with $6 million dedicated to drainage repair and improvements.

Additionally, $10 million has been earmarked to design and build a new animal shelter.
