At least three teachers in Alabama public school systems have faced disciplinary action this week for comments made in the classroom and on social media.
These actions come in the same week that Auburn University fired some employees for making social media posts that were deemed “insensitive,” and other schools nationally have taken similar action.
In a Sept. 13 memo, State Superintendent Eric Mackey said he had become aware of “inappropriate, reprehensible and inexcusable” posts made by at least three educators following the assassination of the conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Sept. 11.
A Hoover City Schools employee was placed on administrative leave after system officials learned of a “divisive and insensitive social media post” on the employee’s personal account.
