MEMPHIS, Tenn. - An immigration activist group is fighting back against the National Guard coming to Memphis by informing and preparing the Latino community.
President Donald Trump on Monday announced in addition to the troops, a Memphis Safe Task Force would also be deployed, including federal agencies such as the FBI, ATF, DEA, ICE and Homeland Security.
"I'm pretty angry and frustrated that this is a political move on behalf of the Trump administration and the governor's administration to continue to over-police Memphis," said Maria Oceja, co-founder of Vecindarios 901. "Donald Trump has continuously pushed this narrative and this agenda of white supremacy. And so, we call that out as, you know, fascist. And we stand against it."
