PHOENIX ( KPHO /Gray News) – Charlie Kirk’s widow has been tapped to lead the grassroots political organization that he founded.

Turning Point USA named Erika Kirk as its next CEO, replacing her husband Charlie Kirk after he was assassinated last week in Utah.

The organization says Charlie Kirk previously expressed desire for Erika Kirk to lead Turning Point USA in the event of his death.

Charlie Kirk was killed on Sept. 10 at an event at Utah Valley University after an assassin fired a single bullet that struck him in the neck.

Now headquartered in Phoenix, Turning Point USA was founded in suburban Chicago in 2012 by a then-18-year-old Charlie Kirk and William Montgomery, a Tea Party activist, to proselytize on college campuses for low taxes and limited government.
