NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A retired New Orleans police officer died by suicide Thursday inside the DXC Technology Building, which houses the NOPD’s headquarters, authorities said.

Officers responded around 10:35 a.m. to a report of an attempted suicide in the 1600 block of Poydras Street, police said. When they arrived, they found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The man was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police identified the victim as a retired NOPD officer.
