SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Best Friends Animal Society (BFAS) is sharing the best tips to keep pets safe and healthy this fall.

Patrick Theobald, Community Program Manager for BFAS in Salt Lake City, said that one of the biggest concerns with pets in the fall is items falling off of trees. Those can include leaves, acorns, and nuts.

"Acorns can cause blockages or upset stomachs," Theobald said. "If a dog gets obsessed with eating leaves, it can cause some intestinal issues as well."

It is important to keep a close eye on pets when they are outside to make sure that they are not getting into things that they should not be.

Theobald also said that with the days getting shorter, it is good to know where pets are at all times.
