TAOS COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The second suspect accused of killing and dismembering his former military friend will remain behind bars. Taos County deputies say David DeGroat and Rainor Joiner confessed to killing Matthew McLaughlin near Tres Piedras. They said the two put his remains in trash bags and dumped them along Highway 64.

Earlier this week, a judge granted pretrial detention for DeGroat, meaning he will stay in custody through his trial. Meanwhile, Joiner had his detention hearing earlier this month. A judge ordered him to remain in custody.
