[CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa] — The trial of Dakota Van Patten, charged with the murder of Melody Hoffman, continues today. Hoffman's mother testified extensively, answering questions for several hours.

Hoffman was killed last year, and her body was discovered at Lily Lake in Amana. Van Patten is the second individual charged in connection with her murder.

If convicted, Van Patten faces a life sentence. McKinley Louisma has already been convicted and sentenced for Hoffman's murder.
