BUFFALO, N.Y. — Erie County Sheriff John Garcia said Chief D.J. Granville had “no previous history of discipline or misconduct” before his recent guilty plea to reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Efforts by 2 On Your Side Investigates to fact-check that claim have run into resistance from the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.

When he announced Granville’s 30-day suspension on Aug. 19, Garcia said in a written statement , “I did take into consideration the fact that D.J. Granville has been an exemplary employee with no previous history of discipline or misconduct.”
