GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Rapids man has been cleared in the 2023 beating death of his uncle, who was found dead inside his bloody apartment on the city’s Southeast Side.
A Kent County jury on Thursday found 48-year-old Sharieff Massey not guilty of second-degree murder in a trial that got underway Monday.
He was accused in the April, 2023 death of 60-year-old Alevandro Williams. Police found Williams in a pool of blood on the living room floor of his apartment on Oak Park Drive SE.
Massey had been staying at the apartment at the time, authorities said.
Massey was charged with second-degree murder. He initially opted to represent himself but had an attorney during trial this week in Kent County Circuit Court.
There were no witnesses to the death and no weapon was recovered.
