When New Haven resident Tyler Brown takes his dog Bailey on a walk to the park, they always have to cross four lanes of busy traffic on Whitney Avenue.

“Wait for a break in the traffic, and then light jog across the street,” Brown said while looking both ways.

"It's like a racetrack," Alder Kimberly Edwards said. "A park, a church, and a school and we have neighbors, and there's no crosswalk."

The speed limit of the street is 25 miles per hour, although residents say they routinely see cars going double that amount.

“There’s a car coming by now and probably going about 45 miles per hour,” State Rep. Ronald Lemar said.
