BLENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The cool start to September got the fall fun started early at Post Family Farm in Hudsonville, and farms all over West Michigan. But the return to 80 degrees and drought conditions are making things more challenging for local farmers and everyone's favorite gourd.
"Pumpkins are 92% water," Julie Febus of Post Family Farms said. "They need that water."
Right now, every county is experiencing some level of drought conditions, according to the latest data released Thursday, continuing a summerlong trend and forcing changes for local farmers.
"Normally, we don't irrigate as much as we have," Febus said. "We were irrigating (our pumpkins) every other day this summer."
The farm even dug its spring-fed reservoir a bit deeper this summer to accommodate the anti
