CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Thursday marks the first early voting day for New Bern’s municipal election, where dozens have come out to cast their ballots at the Stanley White Recreation Center.
As of 6 p.m. on the first day, officials said around 470 voters had cast their ballots.
Residents are voting for the next mayor, and all six of the city’s alderman seats are also on the ballot.
Voter Randy Toran said he’s voting early to ensure his vote would be counted.
“There’s been a lot of contention about votes not being counted. People who don’t exist are able to vote, so I just wanted to make sure that I put that ballot in myself and scan it,” Toran said.
New Bern residents are also getting a chance to vote on a city bond referendum for proposed city upgrades.
