SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - South Bend Mayor James Mueller and Public Works Director Eric Horvath took to the streets on Thursday to highlight recent road improvement efforts by the city.

The mayor, alongside a street crew, offered a demonstration to show how asphalt crack sealing works.

They also made a point to mention why this is an important preventative measure in road maintenance.

“Today we’re highlighting the crack sealing program, which can extend the lifespan of a street between five and seven years,” Mayor Mueller said. “So, that helps us maintain our streets in a more economic fashion so we don’t have to get to that mill and fill where we tear up the streets and repave it quite as soon.”
