ST. MARYS, Georgia — The St. Marys Police Department was notified Thursday of a student in possession of a knife at St. Marys Middle School, the Camden County School District said in a release today. The school followed district safety protocols and the weapon was secured. Law enforcement confirmed there is no ongoing danger to students or staff.

"We recognize that news of these situations can be concerning. Our top priority is always the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Counselors are available for any student who may have questions or concerns.", the district said in their release.

First Coast News has reached out to the St. Marys Police Department to find out if an arrest was made.
