A community leader with experience in the public and private sectors declared his candidacy Thursday for the northwest Allen County commissioner seat that Therese Brown plans to leave once her term ends next year.

Ozzie Mitson's priorities are streamlining government, supporting public safety, improving infrastructure, strengthening economic development and demanding fiscal responsibility, a news release said.

"I am running for county commissioner to safeguard what makes Allen County strong and to build a brighter future for the next generation," the Republican said in a statement. "Our community is built on faith, family and freedom, and I will work every day to protect those values while ensuring government remains accountable to the people it serves."
