The Allen County Plan Commission disagreed Thursday with the commissioners’ proposal for the new solar ordinance.

Setbacks, or how far away solar fields can be built from non-consenting properties and adjacent roads, continue to be the deciding factor. In front of a crowd of more than 100 pople at the Memorial Coliseum in June, the commission members recommended requiring commercial solar fields to be built 400 feet away from non-consenting properties and 200 feet from the centerline of the road.

That ordinance then went to the Allen County commissioners for final approval. Commissioner Ron Turpin, who is also on plan commission, said the members' recommendation had “arbitrary numbers” and recommended the commissioners amend the proposal to only allow 1,000-foot setbacks from non-consent
