TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida has a new "Super Speeder" law and it's putting people in jail.

The law went into effect on July 1, 2025. Under the law, people speeding more than 50 mph above the posted speed limit, or 100 mph and above anywhere, can face higher fines and jail time.

Video released recently by the Florida Highway Patrol shows a driver speeding across the Bayside Bridge in Pinellas County. The arrest report states the driver was cutting off vehicles and speeding at 111 mph.

The driver, a woman, was pulled over and placed in handcuffs and taken to jail.

Sergeant Steve Gaskins with the FHP said the new statute gives law enforcement officers another tool to keep the roads and highways safer in the state.
