SPRINGFIELD, MO - A stalled mixed-use development on the south side could soon see some new construction. But it won't be in the form many were expecting.
A developer is asking the city to rezone six acres of land near South Campbell and Weaver Road, from a Planned Development District to a Single-Family Residential district. If approved, it would allow for the construction of several dozen new homes.
Several years ago, several acres near Sam's Club and the Library Center were rezoned to allow for a mixture of planned development and commercial uses. Site work was done, including grading and building streets. Plans called for a mix of retail, restaurants, and offices. But projects have been slow to take off, and most of the property remains vacant.
