TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - West Alabama is seeing moderate drought conditions. Many other areas of the state are seeing similar dry conditions, too.
The growing drought is beginning to have an impact on some area farmers, but in some cases, the dryness has been a blessing.
Forrest Lee Wiggins has been down this road so many times before.
“It’s not too late, but we need the rain pretty soon,” said Wiggins.
That rain can’t come soon enough for Wiggins - a third generation farmer in Tuscaloosa County.
“The soybeans right now. They need water bad. The pods won’t full out, cotton in the bolls ain’t filling out,” said Wiggins.
The soybean crop for Wiggins is part of his overall 1,600 acres worth of crops; corn, cotton, soybean and milo.
