ROCKFORD, IL — The Winnebago County Coroner has identified the drowning victim from the morning of Sept. 15 in the Rock River.
Anthony Brooks, 51, of Rockford, was pronounced dead at 12:20 p.m. Monday after members of the Rockford Fire Department dive team pulled his body from the Rock River.
According to a Sept. 18 news release from the coroner's office, a witness was Brooks treading water in the Rock River about 10:18 a.m. when Brooks became submerged.
Members of the Rockford Fire Department, Rockford Police Department responded and the Rockford Fire Department Dive Team responded to the call. At about 12:09 p.m., Brooks' body was found and removed from the river.
An autopsy has been completed, and preliminary results are pending.
