MOLINE, Illinois (KWQC) - A group of women in the Quad-Cities area who, after losing loved ones to suicide, turned their grief into action by organizing an Out of the Darkness Walk.

They say speaking and hearing the names of those lost to suicide can help raise awareness.

“My grandson’s name was Angel, and I talk about him all the time, as much as I can,“ said Val Rumler, walk coordinator.

Coordinators and volunteers said talking about the lives of those who died by suicide can help break the stigma surrounding it.

“Whenever I laugh, like I can hear her, and we would just laugh about everything, and she was just the happiest,” Carly Carman said.

And hearing their stories — like the one behind Alyn’s first home run — can help save lives.
