MCLEAN COUNTY ( 25News Now ) - A couple of new sports teams are making their way to McLean County School District Unit 5 high schools, including Normal Community High School and Normal West High School.

During the Wednesday night school board meeting, board members unanimously approved boys’ volleyball and girls’ flag football for the 2026-27 academic year.

Normal West High School Athletic Director Wes Temples said multiple students have been asking for over a year, and the first step is to find coaches to lead the programs.

More than 2,000 students completed a survey expressing interest in the two sports, with over 43% of votes for the activities.

He also said he’ll see who’s interested in it before hiring more internal or external staff.

He said for now, these will be non-comp
