Sterling Heights will take part in a national initiative of cities that will be focused on increasing the housing supply in their communities, city officials recently said.

The city is one of 16 communities nationwide to participate in the Housing Supply Accelerator Challenge, a first-of-its-kind program put on by the National League of Cities and the American Planning Association.

The 18-month program “is designed to accelerate the implementation of proven and innovative housing strategies and expand the supply of housing in communities nationwide,” according to a news release from the city last week.

Mayor Michael Taylor said the recognition places Sterling Heights “on the national stage as a leader in addressing housing challenges.”
