GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - The family of David Barron, the man shot and killed in the Paddock Mall just two days before Christmas in 2023, has filed suit against the mall, its former owners, Washington Prime Group, and Allied Security.

“It was tragic, horrific, and we just don’t want anyone else to have to go through this,” shared Barron’s girlfriend, Marcia Harrison.

The 33-page lawsuit alleges the Paddock Mall is negligent in Barron’s death due to their lack of security. Now, his family is seeking more than $50,000 for damages and a jury trial.
