LANCASTER, Texas — Lancaster’s Hearthstone subdivision is a calm neighborhood, but inside several homes, tensions have been rising.

“How can this go on when over the past two years, the board has taken actions that were not only unfair, but in fact, illegal actions that harmed property owners,” said Bobbie Smith, a resident.

She sat at the table with her neighbors, Patrick McDonald and Charles Allen, as they went over years of documentation. They said their HOA is taking advantage of residents.

“When I bought the property starting and made the first payment in 2007, there was no HOA,” Allen said. He told WFAA in 2015, he started paying HOA fees of $41.31 a year. That later went up to $100. It’s now $110.
