COLUMBIANA, Ala. —

Leaders at the Shelby Human can breath a sigh of relief as it relates to the organization's budget.

A recent fundraiser has allowed the shelter to make payroll obligations.

Shelby Humane was hoping to raise $50,000 to pay employees. As of Thursday evening, the shelter has raised approximately $54,000.

Executive Director, Saundra Ivey, says they have 43 employees. The reason for the budget shortfall is due to a delay in grants the shelter was expecting to receive by now.

"One of them was a significant amount," Ivey said.

Since they provide animal control for Shelby County, they have asked municipal officials for additional money.

The county's contract was for $360,000.
