OLIVER — The South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation has a plan to fix shortcomings at the hospital in Oliver: a $2 million fundraiser.
The $2 million will be spent on three particular shortcomings at the South Okanagan General Hospital:
• $875,000 to buy the facility’s first ultrasound machine
• $825,000 to replace X-ray machine
• $300,000 for staff housing
The ultrasound will be able to do more than 2,500 scans each year, which will prevent patients from transferring, thereby relieving pressure on the Penticton Regional Hospital. It is also expected to help with recruitment.
The new X-ray will allow medical professionals to provide more accurate diagnoses.
And housing units for locum staff is expected to reduce ER closures.
