WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has announced a new round of sanctions targeting the Sinaloa Cartel, focusing on its "Los Mayos" faction named as La Mayiza. This action follows a visit to the U.S.-Mexico border by Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence John K. Hurley and aims to disrupt the cartel's operations, particularly those involving fentanyl trafficking.
The sanctions were levied against the Los Mayos faction, its armed wing leader, and a network of five individuals and 15 companies operating in Rosarito, Mexico, a key hub for cartel operations just south of the U.S. border. The action also targets the leader of a separate Sinaloa Cartel-affiliated gang involved in fentanyl production.
