As the weather warms up, Newcastle is beginning to prepare for the Sparke Helmore Newcastle City Triathlon, an event that is as much about community as it is competition.

Staged against the backdrop of Newcastle Harbour, the annual event draws in athletes from across the region and beyond, offering a mix of scenic racing and fierce competition.

But, for many locals, the triathlon is about more than swim, ride and run – it’s about community, connection and family.

And, for local Ironwoman and triathlete Amanda Russell, the sport has created a great sense of belonging.

“The Newcastle triathlon community is incredibly supportive and welcoming,” she said.

“Athletes of all ages and abilities come together, and every event feels like a celebration of that diversity.”
