MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – Eleven elected officials were among the dozens of people arrested at a protest at a Manhattan ICE holding facility on Thursday, according to the NYPD.

Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, City Comptroller Brad Lander and members of the state legislature were all taken into custody during the demonstration at 26 Federal Plaza. Protesters were rallying against the alleged dirty and unsafe conditions, as well as overcrowding at the facility.

Lawmakers showed up to see if ICE was complying with a preliminary injunction issued in August that required the federal law enforcement agency to limit the number of people inside, ensure that it’s clean and provide sleeping mats for detainees.

ICE agents zip-tied protesters who managed to get inside the building, video showed.
