More than a thousand people attended a vigil held for Charlie Kirk on the south steps of the Capitol on Thursday evening.

Kirk, the CEO and co-founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, was a top podcaster and ally of President Donald Trump. He was assassinated on Sept. 10 while speaking at an event on free speech at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

Many speakers Thursday night gave tribute to Kirk's life and emphasized his Christian beliefs, including several pastors, West Virginia Turning Point USA members and Gov. Patrick Morrisey. Several prayers and musical numbers were interspersed throughout the event.
