WITH THIS summer’s drought conditions worsening in New Hampshire, Tellman Hill Farm owner Doug Morin has been forced to truck in water to feed the 1,200 young apple trees at his orchard.
When the small pond that he relies on to irrigate the orchard in Whitefield went dry, Morin began transporting hundreds of gallons of water at a time from another pond to pump into the one that dried up.
This is the first time that he’s had to bring in water.
“We’ve been hauling water in small tanks for about six weeks now, which is expensive and exhausting. We’re pretty concerned about some of our trees,” Morin said as he made his latest water delivery.
After a soggy spring that made it difficult to plant for some farms and gardeners, this summer has been mostly dry across New Hampshire.
