A 26-year-old Lowell man was sentenced to jail after taking a gold chain necklace from the ground that once belonged to a man killed by an MBTA trolly.

In May 2023, a 30-year-old man missed boarding a trolley at the MBTA’s North Station. As it was departing the station, he kicked the side of the trolley, according to police.

“At this point the male lost his balance and fell under the trolley as it was in motion departing the station,” police said in a statement.

The man’s shirt was caught alongside the trailing trolley, and the man was dragged for about 200 feet.
