Out of everywhere in the entire country, Michigan has the top destination to view fall colors .

That’s according to USA Today’s 10Best list of Best Destinations For Fall Colors , which ranks the Upper Peninsula No. 1.

“With around 7 million acres of forest abutting the shores of three different Great Lakes, changing leaves are the main event each fall in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan,” USA Today wrote of its ranking. “With 10 fall color routes that cover a total of nearly 1,500 miles, there are endless opportunities for a peaceful autumn drive to soak in the scenery.”

Michigan’s U.P. also ranked at the top of this same ranking for 2024 .

The best time to see the fall colors in the U.P. is usually right now, from mid September through the end of the month.
