KENNESAW, Ga. - Elected officials and others are clearly on edge after the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk.

Security screenings will soon be required at Kennesaw City Council meetings, according to Marietta Daily Journal .

Mayor Derek Easterling proposed the measure at the end of Monday’s council session, urging the city to use existing screening equipment to increase safety for both residents and elected officials.

Before a vote was taken on the proposal, city councilmembers talked about Kirk.

The screenings are expected to be in place by the next public council meeting, scheduled for Oct. 6. Marietta News
